The Office of the Federal Public Defender, District of Guam, is now accepting applications for the position of Assistant Federal Public Defender. The Office of the Federal Public Defender provides zealous, professional legal representation to indigent persons charged with criminal offenses in the United States District Court and the United States Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit.
Assistant Federal Public Defender responsibilities include managing an extensive caseload with cases at varying stages of litigation; legal research and writing; preparing pleadings, briefs and motions; appearing on behalf of clients in court hearings and at other related proceedings; reviewing legal documentation, meeting with clients, family members, witnesses and experts.
The successful applicant must be a graduate from an accredited law school and a member in good standing of a state bar. Applicants must have significant trial experience, strong writing and advocacy skills and the ability to work in a team environment. At least 5 years of criminal experience is required. Applicants must be a U.S. Citizen or eligible to work in the United States.
This is a full-time permanent position with federal benefits, salary depending on qualifications and experience. Position is subject to mandatory electronic funds transfer (direct deposit). Federal government benefits apply, including health, life and long term insurance programs. Federal Public Defender Office employees are members of the judicial branch of government, are considered “at will,” and are not protected by the Civil Service Reform Act.
